CFTR Cell Block Model Progress

Block model is almost done. Next step, texturing, rigging, and lighting. The texture for this sequence will be very flat and have more of a 2d illustrated look to it.

Block model for the CFTR cell. Work in progress! Hoping to complete this model from start to end by tonight.

Lungs & Trachea Shader Tests

I'm not much of an organic modeler, but I've completed the lung and trachea models for the medical animation. Here is an image of the shader and texture test that I'm now running. I'm hoping to have this scene animated and rendered by in a few hours.

Photoshop Effects: My Chromosome Image

Here's a Photoshopped version of my chromosome image that I rendered yesterday. One of my friends had suggested that I use the burn tool in Photoshop. The result was this:

I then got carried away and created a darker image. I like the effect the darker image has on the chromosomes. I'll go back into Maya and try to create darker, and more stunning chromosomes based on this image.

How to texture chromosomes?

I've just ompleted the block models of the chromosomes. Now I'm trying to figure out how to texture them! Here's a test render. I'll be taking the models into zBrush tonight to add more modeling detail.

Stylized dna strand

Today's finished product. I am now batch rendering for a movie file.

dna block model with Mental Ray shader

Test render of the dna strand model with a dgs_material shader. The render is very blown out, but it's just a test render. Next step: refining the model and reducing the faceted/chucky look to the strands.

dna Modeling in NURBS

I found a really great way to easily model a dna strand with NURBS, by using nurbs circles and surfaces. Here are just a few screen caps of my process.

Block Model 01

(I will post storyboards up after this weekend... Need to hook up my scanner at home.)

Here are examples of the block modeling process. Block models are used to as placement holders while modeling.
